We’re shining our cadet spotlight on Petty Officer Eleanor Pritchard, who is a Lower Sixth student from Churcher’s College and has been a vital part of their CCF since joining the contingent four years ago. Adventurous at heart, Eleanor joined her school because of its adventurous activities offering and continued with Sixth Form due to its excellent CCF contingent, where Eleanor holds the rank of Cadet Petty Officer.
Eleanor joined the Royal Navy section of her school’s CCF because of her desire to sail and has achieved her Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Levels 1-3 and Seamanship since becoming a cadet. With a natural flare for sailing, Eleanor describes her time at sea as not only being enjoyable but helps provide a sense of purpose and instils a sense of self-confidence that she did not have before.
After completing her A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry, Eleanor hopes to become an Engineering Officer in the Royal Navy. She has already completed a week-long work placement at Lockheed Martin, where she was able to fly a F35 flight simulator!
Going the Distance
2026 looks set to be a banner year for Eleanor. As well as her studies, Eleanor is currently training for the Ten Tors 45-mile challenge and has recently been chosen as one of three CCF cadets to be a First Sea Lord Cadet for 2026, where she will represent the entire CCF and help to raise the profile of Naval Cadets.
Outside of the CCF, Eleanor is a keen climber and is currently working towards her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Having climbed regularly at indoor walls since she was eight years old, Eleanor enjoys the sport for its combination of physical and mental agility requirements. Eleanor has also represented her school in debating and STEM competitions. Eleanor has also represented her school in debating and STEM competitions.
Eleanor’s resilience, leadership and enthusiasm for new challenges make her an exemplary cadet and a role model to her peers.
Looking ahead to the next year, Eleanor comments “I am looking forward to the added challenges and new experiences that my year as a First Sea Lord Cadet will bring!”
Congratulations on all your achievements, Eleanor! You are a leading light and the CCF can’t wait to see what your time as First Sea Lord Cadet brings over the next year.
