The Staniforth competition has running since 1945 and sees schools from across the UK with Combined Cadet Forces compete against each other with 0.22 MOD issued small-bore rifles.

Victoria College Captain of Shooting, Thomas De La Cour, was thrilled when the results were received. He said: “I knew the team had done their best, but it was a shock to find out we had won the competition given the strength of the other teams. I am delighted to have been part of the team that finally brought this trophy back to the College after 62 years”.

The Victoria team was made up of a mix of pupils from Years 10 to 13 who were selected based on their shooting ability and all of whom had taken up shooting at age 13.

Richard Benest, Master in Charge of Shooting commented: “The team have done really well and it is all down to their efforts as we don’t get involved once they are on the range and shooting. Unfortunately there are only two members of the 1955 team still with us, but when we let them know they were both delighted”.
