The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at Abingdon School is celebrating the remarkable achievements of two of its cadets, as Cadet Sergeant Zach Broad and Cadet Sergeant Jay Cabell have been awarded prestigious Army Scholarships.

This honour not only secures them a coveted place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for officer training but also offers valuable financial support during their final year at Abingdon and throughout their university courses.

Zach and Jay's achievement is particularly noteworthy as it marks a rare occurrence for the Abingdon CCF, with two cadets securing these scholarships in the same year. This success continues a remarkable trend, with seven Abingdon CCF cadets earning Army Scholarships in the last seven years.

Over 100 candidates from various backgrounds competed vigorously for these coveted scholarships. The selection process was nothing short of rigorous, involving online interviews and a challenging essay submission. Following this initial stage, the candidates faced a gruelling two-day assessment designed to evaluate their physical fitness, problem-solving capabilities, leadership qualities, and team-building skills.

Both Zach and Jay, who joined the CCF at Abingdon during their Third Year, spoke highly of the CCF programme, emphasising the critical role it played in their personal and leadership development. They agreed that the CCF had provided them with invaluable opportunities to practice leadership and communication skills, while also instilling a strong sense of responsibility and effective time management. Additionally, they expressed their deep appreciation for the camaraderie and friendships they have forged within the CCF.

For Zach Broad, the scholarship represents an exciting opportunity to further his education in Product Design, while Jay Cabell will pursue his passion for Criminology. The financial assistance accompanying the scholarship will undoubtedly ease the financial burden of their studies and allow them to focus more on their academic pursuits.

Abingdon CCF is proud to have played a significant role in nurturing the potential of these outstanding cadets. The scholarships awarded to Zach Broad and Jay Cabell are not only a testament to their dedication and hard work but also a reflection of the strength and effectiveness of the CCF programme at Abingdon School.

The entire cadet community extends its heartfelt congratulations to Cadet Sjt Zach Broad and Cadet Sgt Jay Cabell on their remarkable achievements. As they embark on this exciting journey to Sandhurst, their alma mater stands behind them with pride, knowing that they will continue to excel as leaders and scholars in the British Army.
