CCF Cadets at the Rossall School Dinner Night

A mixture of sixth form cadets, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) and serving Armed Forces personnel came together over a delicious meal to mark a evening celebrating their camaraderie, pride and reflection.

Lt Heath, Rossall School, CCF (Royal Navy) provides their insight into the night’s festivities. “The evening began with a warm reception – the CCF Band played and the no-secco flowed! The dining room was filled with a sense of occasion; from the polished silver and the regimental colours to the lively conversations shared between cadets, CFAVs and service members.

Over the course of the evening, guests enjoyed excellent food and great company, with the chance to celebrate the achievements of the contingent and the values that define Rossall School’s CCF.

Speeches from The Cadet RSM Adeite and the Guest of Honour, Cdr Haines highlighted the benefits of a CCF contingent and how being a part of one can help with personal development, teamwork and friendships amongst cadets. The evening was also a great chance to maintain a connection between past and present cadets, whilst honouring those who serve and inspiring the next generation of cadet leaders.

The event not only showcased the professionalism and spirit of our sixth formers but also reinforced the strength of community within the CCF. The evening concluded with plenty of laughter, a few stories shared across generations, and a renewed commitment to the high standards and proud traditions of Rossall School CCF.”

The Cadet RSM reflected on the evening saying “the Regimental Dinner was an incredible night. The opportunity to interact with all our guests and volunteers in such a special setting was brilliant.”

CFAV Major Pilkington described the event as “a thoroughly memorable evening, especially as cadets had the opportunity to interact with adults in an informal capacity;” whilst

Captain Gartside said “I was proud to hear The Cadet RSM give an engaging and meaningful speech, along with seeing him and his peers engage in a wonderful dining experience and learn the regiment dining etiquette. As a CFAV, it was fantastic to be able to network with some significant dignitaries and have the opportunity to discuss potential future opportunities for our cadet force.”

Lt Heath wishes to thank everyone who helped make the evening so special and comments “it was an absolute honour to enable an evening like this come to life, one that not only celebrated success, but also gave our cadets the chance to experience a dinner, teaching etiquette and instilling confidence all whilst growing a network for the growing Rossall School CCF, now and for years to come!”

Dinner nights and social events are incredibly important occasions for CCF contingents as they let the cadets learn about the traditions and the history of their unit, whilst taking part in an important aspect of military culture. Such occasions also allow for cadets to socialise amongst their peers outside of the classroom, which helps to enhance friendships and relationships.
