An Exciting Milestone for Cadets

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Mrs Marjorie Glasgow BEM, had the privilege and pleasure of officially opening the newly refurbished Banbury Joint Cadet Centre (JCC). The ceremony marked an exciting milestone for both the Banbury Jordan Detachment of the Oxfordshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) and 1460 (Banbury) Squadron Air Training Corps, who will now share this modern, purpose-built facility.

The event was attended by cadets, staff, and invited guests, who gathered to celebrate the completion of a significant project aimed at strengthening youth engagement in the Banbury community. The JCC stands as a symbol of partnership, teamwork, and commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.

Improved New Space

The Banbury JCC has undergone a substantial refurbishment, ensuring a safe, modern, and inspiring environment for cadet training and development. The works included a new substructure, frame, roof, external walls, and partitions, alongside the installation of new windows, internal and external doors.

Further improvements to mechanical and electrical services have modernised the building’s infrastructure, while the addition of an extra classroom provides more space for learning and activities. New sanitary fittings, general interior decoration, and the installation of an outside canopy area have completed the transformation, creating a welcoming and functional space for all users.

Opportunities for Growth

The refurbished JCC will play a vital role in providing young people with opportunities to develop life skills through structured cadet training. Activities within the Army Cadets and Air Training Corps foster comradeship, teamwork, and self-discipline, helping cadets grow into confident, capable, and community-minded individuals.

Whatever path they choose to follow, cadets will carry forward valuable lessons in leadership, respect, and service to others — qualities that are essential in all walks of life.

The Importance of the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers

The success of Banbury’s cadet organisations would not be possible without the tireless efforts of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers. Their dedication, patience, and leadership ensure that young people across Oxfordshire continue to benefit from exceptional opportunities for personal growth and achievement.
