The cadets and staff of the Folkestone School for Girls Combined Cadet Force (CCF) were recently honoured to welcome Brigadier Andrew Wood for their biannual inspection.

As a contingent proudly affiliated with the Royal Engineers, the visit held special significance—Brigadier Wood is himself a distinguished Royal Engineer. His presence added a meaningful and personal connection, further strengthening the contingent’s ties to their parent corps.

During the parade, Brigadier Wood observed cadets engaged in a variety of activities and took the time to speak with many of them, learning about their individual journeys and the positive impact the CCF has had on their personal growth and development.

The event also showcased the contingent’s latest training innovation: newly acquired LASER weapons, used to simulate battlefield techniques. This cutting-edge equipment—funded through the Contingent Growth Fund and a generous donation from the school—marks a significant enhancement to the cadets’ training experience.

Since its inception, the contingent has seen remarkable growth and now proudly counts over 200 cadets parading most weeks—a clear reflection of its popularity and the unwavering commitment of its staff.

Adding to the evening’s distinction was the presence of Robert Pooley of Pooley Swords, who generously donated a ceremonial sword to the school. Mr. Pooley actively engaged with the programme and joined in celebrating the cadets’ achievements.

The event concluded with the presentation of the ceremonial sword to Corporal Oonagh Kelly of Malta Platoon, Year 11, named Best Cadet in recognition of her outstanding leadership and dedication
