RAF cadets from Calday Grange Grammar School CCF took part in this hands-on experience, enabling them to strengthen their understanding of robotic components, explore problem-solving techniques and work together to help develop the teamwork required for successful robotic builds.

As part of the cadet’s syllabus and ongoing training, the contingent recently attended a dedicated V5 robotics development day at the Inskip Training Centre in Wales, alongside fellow RAF cadets from CCF’s across the Northwest. Here, all the varying CCF teams came together to take part in a series of workshops focused on advanced robotics skills, coding principles and practical troubleshooting. This collaborative approach allowed the cadets to learn from both the instructors and each other, as they were able to share ideas and approaches with other CCF contingents which helped to create a productive and supportive, learning atmosphere.

Skills to Last a Lifetime

Following this training, the cadets put their new knowledge into practice during a series of V5 robotics trial runs. These sessions provided an opportunity to test their robots’ performance, refine mechanical designs, and begin developing tactical thinking for future competitive events. The instructors overseeing the activity described the day as highly successful, noting the cadets’ strong engagement, enthusiasm, and clear progress.

Fortunately, the Robotics Programme shows no signs of slowing down. Calday Grange Grammar School CCF RAF cadets are due to attend three weekend events in early 2026, with each event designed specifically to help deepen cadets technical understanding, strengthen teamwork and help to prepare cadets in competing as a unified team within the Northwest region. These upcoming sessions will also allow the cadets to build on everything they have learned so far, helping them grow in confidence and capability.

The Robotics Programme provides invaluable opportunities for the CCF RAF cadets. Through hands-on engineering, collaboration and challenging tasks, the cadets are not only gaining technical skills, but they are also developing their own resilience, building on their communication techniques and working on their leadership skills. These are all valuable soft skills and qualities that will serve cadets well through the CCF and beyond.

Wishing the best of luck to Calday Grange Grammar School CCF RAF Cadets in the next part of their Robotics Programme!
