Three cadets from Calday Grange Grammar School CCF have announced that they are taking on an ambitious 48-hour charity challenge by climbing the nine summits of Snowdon. The team will ascend a cumulative 8,848 metres (the equivalent of Mount Everest) in support of YoungMinds, a charity dedicated to making a difference in young people’s mental health.
Resilience, Determination and Grit
Over the two-day event, the cadets will operate out of Llanberis and will repeatedly tackle the Llanberis route, which is the longest and most gradual route up Snowdon. Using Llanberis as a base, the team will start, finish and reset there between each ascent. This will test not only their physical fitness, but also their mental resilience, determination and their ability to keep going, even when fatigued.
All three members of the team have already started training, regularly walking and building their endurance to make sure they are ready to complete their challenge. Captain Jo McGinn, OC Army Section, Calday Grange Grammar School CCF commented “their commitment and teamwork has been clear to see throughout their training and preparation!”
Conquering the Climb
The aim of this challenge is to raise as much money as possible for YoungMinds, a charity dedicated to supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people. The charity’s goal is to ensure that no young person feels alone with their mental health and that the appropriate support is available to them, whenever a child or young person needs it. The cadets will be taking on this challenge to help ensure that every step-up Snowdon supports a young mind below. The cause resonates strongly with the team as they recognise the challenges that many young people face and understand the importance of raising awareness, encouraging conversations and ensuring support is available.
The cadets hope to also highlight the positive impact of outdoor activity on a young person’s wellbeing and how regular exercise and time outside can build resilience, confidence and provide an opportunity to reset and refocus. They hope to inspire others to get involved and support the cause and recognise what is possible and can be achieved through perseverance and determination.
The CCF would like to wish the best of luck to the team on taking on such an incredible challenge. If you would like to support them and donate to YoungMinds, then please click here.
