This long-standing partnership sees UK Army Cadets travelling to India each January to coincide with Republic Day, while Indian cadets visit the UK in early summer. The programme offers a unique opportunity for cadets to gain invaluable experiences, broaden their horizons, and represent their country internationally.

Embracing New Cultures and Experiences

Participation in the exchange allows cadets to immerse themselves in a vastly different culture, giving them firsthand exposure to new traditions, customs, and ways of life. From the moment they stepped foot in India, they were introduced to the vibrant and diverse nature of the country. The experience was more than just sightseeing; it was about embracing cultural differences, forming friendships, and developing a greater appreciation for the world beyond their borders.

A key highlight for many cadets was visiting some of India’s most famous landmarks, including the India Gate, Taj Mahal, and Agra Fort. For most, it was their first time experiencing these historic sites, and the excitement was palpable. Witnessing their awe as they approached these iconic locations was an enriching experience for the adult volunteers accompanying them.

The Honour of Representing the UK

A particularly proud moment of the exchange was the opportunity for UK cadets to march alongside 18 other international delegations during the Prime Minister’s Rally in India. This prestigious event showcased the unity and camaraderie among cadet forces from around the world. Marching in front of dignitaries and representing their country was a moment of immense pride for the cadets, reinforcing their sense of accomplishment and national identity.

Beyond the parade, cadets engaged in various ceremonial and formal events, allowing them to interact with esteemed officials and dignitaries. These experiences provided a deeper understanding of diplomacy and the significance of international cooperation.

An Experience They’ll Never Forget

The Indian Youth Exchange Programme is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for cadets and adult volunteers. It provides an enriching experience that enhances cultural awareness, communication skills, and leadership abilities. More importantly, it allows young cadets to network with their international peers in a way they rarely would otherwise.

“Travelling to India was an unforgettable experience. Meeting cadets from around the world, exploring incredible sights like the Taj Mahal, and embracing a new culture was truly eye-opening. I’ve made lifelong friends and gained a deeper appreciation for global diversity. I’d highly recommend this trip to any cadet!” – RSM Jessica Zhaboli, Mount St Mary’s College CCF
