Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson visited Aston University Engineering Academy, a state school with an RAF Cadet Force, to make the announcement. The news brings the total number of cadet units to 472, benefiting around 43,000 pupils in schools across the country.
The CEP was set up by the government 10 years ago with the aim of setting up more units in state schools. The target of 500 units by 2020 has very nearly been achieved. The new cadet units are backed by £50 million funding from LIBOR funds, which pays for set up costs, cadets uniforms, equipment and training.
