On 9th May 2024 Read School CCF was delighted and proud to confirm its affiliation with The Royal Yorkshire Regiment by way of a formal Rebadging Parade.

Honoured Guest for the day was The Commanding Officer, The 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, Lt Col Richard Hill. He was joined by soldiers of the 4th Battalion, members of the Cadet Training Team (CTT) and a 5-piece ensemble from The Royal Yorkshire Regiment Band.

After a reception lunch, the cadets delivered a presentation reflecting a short, intense and very successful 18-month journey. The presentation included a diverse range of experiences, ranging from: camps and competitions, Year 8 recruitment activities, and a more recent exercise to Cyprus. The cadets spoke about the positive impacts of being a cadet and the confidence and opportunities they have had within the CCF. An extra special speaker was His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, Cdt Flight Sgt Freddie Thomlinson. He spoke passionately about the CCF and gave a fantastic insight into his role of community engagement initiatives, DofE at all three levels and much more.

The Parade began with the CO talking to Cadets about the legacy of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment. Accompanied by the Headteacher Ruth Ainley and WO2 Martin Field (CTT). Royal Yorkshire Regiment capbadges and Berets were ceremoniously handed to the Army Contingent, symbolising and affirming our new affiliation.

The weather helped hugely, and we were very lucky to be able to get full commitment from all parties involved, contributing to the day producing excellent opportunities for hands-on learning experiences. Additionally, there was a spider's web team Command Task, Skill at Arms training and a Fieldcraft demonstration. Section attack training further enriched the Cadets' understanding of military procedures.

The Commanding Officer was gracious to attend the final parade and carried out some formal promotions and awarded certificates to both RAF and Army Cadets, underlining their dedication and achievements. The Headteacher, Contingent Commander, SSI and all staff at Read School CCF would like to thank the Commanding Officer Lt Col Richard Hill for his time and all other honoured guests of the day.
