6 October saw some of the finest cadet bands from the Greater London area come together to showcase their musical skills at the Guildhall Yard, City of London.

Founded by Alderman Sir Andrew Parmley during his tenure as Lord Mayor (2016-2017), the competition initially began with one trophy, but it has since grown and is now categorised into two separate categories – Full Band and a Corps of Drums.

The prizes are as follows:

  • Best Band (provided by the Alderman Sir Andrew Parmley)
  • Best Corps of Drums (provided by the RFCA for Greater London)
  • Best Overall Bugler (provided by Lady Parmley)
  • Best Drum Major (provided by Mr Stephen Lane, YOU London)

Who Took Part?

Four incredible teams took part and performed some exceptional music! The London Area Band of the Sea Cadet Corps, Greater London South West Sector Army Cadets Corps of Drums, London and South East Regional Royal Air Force Air Cadets Band and St Dunstan’s College Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Corps of Drums all performed a selection of fantastic music. From The London Area Band of the Sea Cadet Corps’ rendition of the Top Gun Anthem, to London and South East Regional Royal Air Force Air Cadets Band take on Sweet Caroline and Thriller, the competition was varied with brilliant, energetic performances.

St Dunstan’s College CCF Corps of Drums was led by Drum Major Francis, with Drum Major and Lieutenant Col Richard Davies (CCF) as the volunteer in charge. The band performed the following songs:

  • Men of Harlec as March on Music
  • Sea Shanties, Manchester and Teddy Bear’s Picnic as Static Music
  • Heart of Oak as March off Music

And the Winners Are…

The CCF would like to wish all the winners and those who took part a huge congratulations. Special congratulations go to CCF Cadet Drummer Morrison from St Dunstans College, who won the Best Overall Bugler Prize!
